The Google Pixel 11 series finally went official, and the lineup has four models, including the foldable. Design-wise, there are no major changes over the predecessors, except for the HiLight. But that’s on the surface. Internally, the new Pixel 11 lineup brings some notable upgrades, with one of them being the “Extreme Charging Mode” that unlocks faster wired and wireless charging.
Pixel 11 Extreme Charging Mode works with wired and wireless charging
Charging speeds on Google phones are not the fastest you’ll see on the market. Google isn’t very vocal when it comes to disclosing that aspect of the Pixel phones. For the Pixel 11 series, the company just describes “ultra-fast wired charging” based on how much battery you can get in about 30 minutes. The Pixel 11 Pro XL can reach 75%, while the Pixel 11 and 11 Pro reach 55%. The Pixel 11 Fold gets to 50%.
While that’s slightly faster than last year, the charging speeds are still around 30W to 45W depending on the model. The wireless charging gets a significant boost, with the whole lineup now supporting Qi2 25W wireless charging speeds. Besides that, “Extreme Charging Mode” is the new addition this year.
Available across all four Pixel 11 models
As Google describes, this new mode will “focus your phone’s performance entirely on powering up” to give you an “ultra-fast boost when you need it most.” The company told 9to5Google that “Extreme Charging Mode” both cuts down on background activity and allows the phone to run hotter while charging. This helps it charge faster. However, it doesn’t technically increase the existing 30W or 45W charging limits. It just gets more of that wattage into the phone before slowing things down.
You can reportedly turn on Extreme Charging Mode only when the device is under 50%, and it stays active until the phone reaches 100%. It works with both wired and wireless charging and can be turned on from Settings or the Quick Settings panel. This mode is available on all four devices in the Pixel 11 series. However, it’s not clear whether it will come to older models at the moment.
