Huawei has officially launched the 2026 edition of its MateBook Fold Ultimate Design (also referenced in some markets as the Extraordinary Master Edition) in China. This ultra-premium foldable laptop brings updated internal hardware, refined cooling and expanded software features. The device arrives alongside the ultra-light Huawei MateBook Pro S traditional laptop.
An 18-inch dual-layer OLED display in a thin form factor
The main draw of the MateBook Fold remains its massive 18-inch dual-layer LTPO OLED display. When fully unfolded, the screen provides a 3.3K resolution (3,296 x 2,472 pixels) with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness, and a 92% screen-to-body ratio. Folding the device transforms it into a more traditional 13-inch footprint with a 3:2 aspect ratio. This allows the lower portion of the screen to function as a virtual keyboard and touchpad.
To handle a massive foldable 18-inch panel, Huawei engineered a waterdrop hinge that uses zirconium-based liquid metal components for added structural durability. The rear panel features a vegan leather finish in Radiant Gold, Sky White, or Phantom Black. There’s also a built-in kickstand for tabletop setups. Despite its large display and a 74.69Wh battery with 140W fast-charging, the laptop weighs 1.16kg and measures 7.3mm thick (unfolded).
Upgraded Kirin X90 Plus performance and HarmonyOS 6.1
Under the hood, the 2026 model replaces its predecessor’s processor with an all-new Kirin X90 Plus chipset operating at a 28W TDP. Huawei claims the new silicon, combined with an ultra-thin vapor chamber cooling system, yields roughly a 25% performance boost over older MateBook hardware. Buyers can configure the system with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of solid-state storage.
The notebook runs on HarmonyOS 6.1. This software build introduces multi-window layouts, on-device AI features, and seamless switching between laptop, tablet, and desktop modes. Huawei also includes its AI-powered M-Pen 3 stylus in the box, giving digital artists and professionals precision input without requiring a separate purchase. Additional hardware perks include an 8MP webcam, a six-speaker audio setup, four microphones, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. There’s even satellite communication support.
Pricing and market availability
As expected with niche foldable computing, cutting-edge engineering comes at a high price tag. The base model with 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage starts at 24,999 yuan (roughly $3,700). The mid-tier 24GB/1TB version retails for 26,999 yuan ($4,000), while the top-spec 32GB/2TB variant tops out at 29,999 yuan ($4,445).
As of now, the 2026 MateBook Fold is only available in China. There’s no official timeline for a potential launch outside the country.
