Google Health sort of had a rough start. People mainly complained about the AI Coach, which just throws lengthy AI commentary instead of useful metrics straightaway. Alongside trying to address that behind the scenes, Google is pushing some much-needed updates. The app just got an important update for those into the Apple ecosystem. Google Health can now sync to Apple Health.
Google Health can now sync data to Apple Health
This change was spotted by Reddit user posting_purple. Version 5.05 of Google Health for iOS enables syncing a bunch of different metrics from Google Health to Apple Health. That includes sleep data, vitals, exercise records, steps, and more. This makes it easier for iPhone users to track fitness data from a Fitbit device without relying on Google’s app.
However, one missing metric might disappoint serious fitness enthusiasts. A few users on the original post commented that heart rate variability (HRV) data doesn’t sync to Apple Health. According to one user, MashV, that’s likely because Google Health and Apple Health use different methods to calculate HRV. So if you just want to see your Fitbit step count in Apple Health, the new sync works just fine.

However, there’s one major downside
But if you’re someone who closely tracks your heart health, the lack of heart rate variability (HRV) syncing could be a major downside. Then again, if you prefer using Apple Health, you can still view most of your fitness data there and then occasionally open the Google Health app to check your HRV.
Google’s release notes also mention that, in the US, Google Health 5.05 lets users share their tracked health data with their doctor through Smart Health Links on both Android and iOS. Google Health 5.05 update is now available to download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
