Google claims that the Pixel battery drain bug that users have been experiencing for months now, has been fixed by the latest software update that’s been pushed out to devices. This would be the July update that went out a little earlier this month.
If you’re unfamiliar with this bug, what it would do is cause the battery on certain Pixel devices to drain faster even while the phone was idle, but it was just normal battery drain. It was actually draining much quicker during the idle state. Most users aren’t on their phones 24/7, which means a lot of idle time was taking place for the average user, which translated to heavy battery drain for quite a few users. The problem became so prominent that it was coming up on the issue tracker more significantly and getting a large number of responses from users reporting the same problems on their devices.
The battery drain bug was also popping up for users on Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 series phones. So, it was fairly widespread, and reportedly surfaced for the first time not long after the March Pixel Feature Drop update.
Google has merged the Pixel battery drain bug fix into the July update
According to Android Authority, Google has responded to an issue tracker post that says the issue has been fixed. “Marked as fixed. Thank you for reporting this issue, Google has fixed the “Severe Idle Drain: kepler_spi_irq_handler & gnss_ipc Suspend Aborts” issue. A fix has been merged in the July MPR(CP2A.260705.006) release for Pixel 9 Pro XL/Pixel 9/Pixel 10 Pro XL/Pixel 10/Pixel 10a. For Pixel 8a, Pixel 9a, the fix will be included in the Sep QPR,” Google says.
Users, however, have reported the issue persisting after this was marked as fixed by Google. So users aren’t really of the belief that the issue has actually been fixed at all.
