The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P has finally launched globally, but it still isn’t coming to the US. Thanks to its ongoing fight with the US government over banning the company (largely due to its consumer drones). It is, however, available in the UK, Europe, Canada, and Australia now.
DJI previously unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4P (short for “4 Pro”) at the Cannes Film Festival back in May. It’s an upgraded version of the Osmo Pocket 4 that was unveiled earlier this year, and the successor to the wildly successful Osmo Pocket 3 released in 2023.
The Osmo Pocket 4P differentiates itself from the Pocket 4 by being geared more towards a professional audience. While it can, and will, be used by creators for videos on social media, DJI has designed the Pocket 4P with features that will specifically appeal to filmmakers and cinematographers.
The biggest feature you’ll notice right away is the dual-camera setup the Osmo Pocket 4P uses. It has a main lens with a one-inch CMOS sensor and 17 stops of dynamic range. While the other is a 60mm telephoto lens that’s great for portrait shots. It has 4K resolution at 240fps, and it also brings DJI’s new 10-bit D-log two-color profile.
DJI won’t be bringing the Osmo Pocket 4P to the US, for now
DJI is currently fighting with the US government over banning its drones, and it has now banned DJI from selling products here entirely. DJI was getting around this a bit by selling some of its other products under different company names. But the US has decided to ban all companies selling DJI products, even under other names.
Of course, DJI isn’t ruling out the US forever, just for the foreseeable future. Perhaps once this administration leaves office, the next will be more favorable to DJI – at least the non-drone part of its business.
