Based on recent reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has actually been quite popular during the ongoing pre-order period. We did not have any specific info, though, until now. Samsung just shared some official info regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Galaxy Z Flip 8 pre-orders in one of the biggest smartphone markets in the world, and yes… we’re looking at record pre-orders.
Samsung broke its foldable pre-order record in one of the biggest smartphone markets out there
The market in question is India, which is technically the second-largest smartphone market on the planet. Samsung has revealed that it has taken record numbers of pre-orders for the new lineup of foldables. Within the first 72 hours, 271,000 units have been pre-ordered.
Last year, it took the company 15 days to reach that same number with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Furthermore, 45% of pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 were from Tier 2 cities and below. Samsung believes this points to a “massive untapped market potential.”
The company sees this as a massive step forward for foldable smartphones. Why? Well, in Samsung’s eyes, this signifies “shifting consumer landscape, where innovation is no longer confined to metropolitan hubs.”
Price tags in India are quite high
In India, the price tags are different than in the US, Europe, and Korea, of course. The Galaxy Z Flip 8’s pricing starts at INR124,999 ($1,306), the base Galaxy Z Fold 8 model costs INR179,999 ($1,881), while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra pricing starts at INR199,999 ($2,090).
These are quite high price tags for phones, even outside of India. So the fact that Samsung broke its pre-order record within the first 72 hours, compared to 15 days last year, says a lot, actually. The devices seem to be immensely popular there.
All three of these phones were announced last week during the event in London. The pre-order period ends on August 12, when all three phones will become available to purchase.
