On Instagram, you can easily edit the captions of your post. You don’t need to delete it and reupload it again to do so. But when it comes to swapping out music? That’s a different story. Thankfully, that has changed. The company has announced that users can now swap out music in their old posts on Instagram.
You can swap out music on old posts on Instagram
Prior to this, if you wanted to change the music in your post or Reel, you’d have to delete it and reupload it. This was a pain because deleting it means deleting all the views and engagement. Plus, there’s no guarantee the algorithm will pick up the post again, or at least not in the way you might want.
However, according to Instagram, users can now swap out music in old posts. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, “This one’s been a long time coming. You can now replace the audio on your published feed posts and carousels, no need to delete and re-upload. Tap the three dots, hit edit, and swap your audio.”
The company has also made it a relatively easy process. All you need to do is tap the three dots on the post, tap on edit, and swap out your audio. Once you’re done, the changes should be reflected in your post, no deleting and reuploading.
Why would you need this?
There are a number of reasons why this is a useful feature. For starters, we imagine that some of you might change your mind about a particular song or audio track. Maybe you want to go with something happier, darker, or find an audio track that’s trending. Alternatively, sometimes due to copyright reasons, the audio might be muted.
At least with this method, you can swap it with a song or track that isn’t copyrighted. The ability to edit your posts and swap out old music should be live for users. So if you have any posts that you think could do with an audio refresh, go ahead and start swapping away.
