Considering the type of content and the addictive nature of social media these days, parental controls have become essential. Instagram and Facebook already offer some level of control. Threads is now getting new parental supervision tools. This will enable them to oversee their teenagers’ behavior on the platform. The company notes that these are part of its ongoing commitment to providing parents with helpful tools to support their teens across Meta’s apps. These will complement other built-in restrictions.
Threads expands teen safety with new parental tools
Starting next week in the US, parents and guardians in Family Center will have visibility and controls on Threads. When supervision is set up, parents can view their teen’s time on Threads each day for the past week, including the average daily time. They can set a daily time limit for how long their teens can use the app and block access during select days and hours. If teens use it on multiple devices, time limits apply to the total time spent.
Parents can also limit or block access to Threads at night. With this, notifications will be muted, and auto-replies will be on by default from 10 PM to 7 AM. Teen accounts on Threads have automatic, built-in protections, such as private accounts and limits on the content teens see. Starting next week, parents can decide if teens under 16 can change any of these settings to be less strict. They will have access to new insights and controls.
Rolling out in the US starting next week
Parents can also place restrictions on what tags a teen can see and control who can tag their teens in posts. Once available, parents can set up supervision on Threads by heading to familycenter.meta.com/supervision. Lastly, the company adds that it’ll continue to expand supervision tools to make it even easier for parents/gaurdians to find controls and support their teen’s experience.
