Samsung’s pre-order goodies for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra might be a bit disappointing. A new report says that Samsung may not offer the full benefits of a storage upgrade to pre-orderers.
In previous years, Samsung has offered a free storage upgrade for those pre-ordering. So you could get the 512GB model for the price of the 256GB model. It was a really nice upgrade, considering these storage prices are a bit crazy, running roughly $120 per 256GB of storage.
However, due to the rising cost of DRAM and NAND storage, Samsung might do away with this pre-order bonus. And thus, Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division may be looking at ways to lower promotional expenses. The MX unit has reportedly been under pressure lately, and could post an operating loss for the second quarter of 2026.
Less pre-order bonuses + price hikes
On top of some of the pre-order bonuses going away, we’re also likely going to see some price hikes across the board for Samsung’s new devices next week. Again, this comes back to the current DRAM and NAND storage crisis, where due to AI and data centers, companies are buying up DRAM and NAND storage at record amounts. Pushing the price higher and higher.
There have already been a number of price hikes on Samsung products, though the majority of them were on higher-storage models. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 512GB and 1TB models, while the 256GB remained at $1,999.
If you were thinking about buying one of Samsung’s new folding phones, you should really take advantage of Galaxy Reserve. While the headline offer doesn’t sound that impressive, as it’s just $30 off, you do get enhanced trade-in credit, bringing the total to up to $1,230 off. You also get entered for a chance to win a Samsung gift card.
