Global memory constraints have become a growing concern across the smartphone industry. Multiple phone manufacturers have raised prices to offset costs. While Apple has chosen to absorb the impact for its current lineup, some sources suggest the relief won’t last forever. Now, a new leak concerning the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro claims that while the price hike is imminent, the jump won’t be very drastic.
iPhone 18 series price hike fear grew after Tim Cook’s comment
iPhone’s prices have remained pretty constant in the last few years. However, this year, the price hike fear has grown significantly as component costs continue to climb. Some reports earlier claimed that Apple won’t increase the prices of the base model iPhones. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was among those who believed the standard version would likely avoid a price increase. And if there were any adjustments, they would be reserved for higher storage variants.
This view changed very recently when the CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that price increases were on the way. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Cook said Apple had worked to shield customers from rising costs but could no longer absorb all of the increases. His comment led many to believe that a price hike is on the way for future iPhones. Some reports suggested the iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,399 or more, a sharp jump from the iPhone 17 Pro’s $1,099 price tag. The estimates were based on Apple’s margins and higher expected costs for hardware components.
J.P. Morgan says there would be a modest price increase
A new report from J.P. Morgan now claims that while the iPhone 18 Pro prices will increase, it will be modest. According to estimates shared by Max Weinbach, the firm expects Apple to raise prices across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup by around $50 to $100. While that would still mark an increase, it is far below some of the figures that circulated online after Cook’s comments.
The following report has also led to speculations that Apple may be trying to manage expectations around the iPhone 18 Pro prices. By warning consumers of the price hike, the company is preparing the buyers for the worst-case scenario. Regardless, nothing is confirmed officially for now. The launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series is scheduled to take place in the coming months. Let’s wait for the debut to know the exact prices of the phones.
