Android 17 has had its fair share of bugs and this includes a bug that would prevent widget placement if you removed them from the homescreen. This is, of course, much less problematic than the Pixel boot loop bug that some users have experienced since March. But bugs are still bugs and thus annoying to deal with. So it’s good news that Google has acknowledged this bug and is working to fix it as quickly as they can.
What’s more, is that Google has confirmed what was causing the bug in the first place. Users (again, some, not all) started noticing this bug back in February of 2026. So it’s been going on for a few months now by this point. In that time, it’s been suspected that the bug may be tied to work profiles added to the device. Further, it was suspected that a temporary fix for this issue would be to remove the work profile and just keep your personal Google account. This appeared to work, however the bug would return if a new profile was added again.

According to 9To5Google, it has been confirmed that the culprit behind this bug is having a work profile added to your phone. Google not only acknowledges the reason for the bug, but confirms that it’s also working on a fix for it. So, hopefully it’s coming in sooner rather than later.
On that note, Google does say that the fix will be pushed out “soon” in a future update. Although, it doesn’t get any more specific that that. Soon could still end up being a couple of weeks away. Which means you might either have to deal with no work profile on your device, or not having any widgets on your homescreen, until this fix is rolled out.
