Apple is apparently preparing a second-generation iPhone Air, which will launch next Spring, alongside the iPhone 18.
This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says that plans may be in motion for Apple to launch a second-generation iPhone Air in Spring 2027, with it potentially having a second rear camera. It could also bring improved battery life and a version with the A20 Pro processor inside.
Fortunately for iPhone Air fans, this likely indicates that it has sold enough for Apple to focus on a second-generation model. Typically, you would think that the second-generation model was mostly finished before the first-gen model had any real sales data for Apple, but with the delayed launch this time around, Apple likely has more sales data than normal.
Apple’s moving the non-Pro iPhones to a Spring release
This year, Apple is moving the release of the base model iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air to the Spring, to kind of break up the iPhone launch. Otherwise, Apple would be launching five iPhones in September, and that’s kind of insane.
But also moving the base model to Spring makes a lot of sense. Having it launch with the iPhone 18e, which is kind of targeting the same customers. It also gives the new iPhone Ultra some time to breathe and get the attention that it deserves.
I’m actually a bit surprised that Apple is doing a second iPhone Air, it has been more popular than the Mini and Plus models, but still pales in comparison to the iPhone 17, Pro, and Pro Max models. Though, this does look like it’ll be the equivalent to the iPhone 13 Mini launch, where we get massive battery life improvements and camera improvements.
Either way, it looks like iPhone Air 2 is going to launch around March or April of next year.
