Setting your own wallpapers on your phone has been a standard feature for as long as we can remember. But the problem with using your own photos or images taken off the web is that it might not fit perfectly. This is due to resolution and aspect ratio. However, with iOS 27, Apple is giving users the ability to create their own wallpapers.
iOS 27 lets users create their own wallpapers
But wait, can’t you already create your own wallpapers? Right now, you can set your own wallpapers. You can choose the ones that Apple bundled in iOS, or you can use your own photos, or use something you found online. But with iOS 27, you can finally create your own wallpapers.
This is actually part of Apple’s efforts at boosting its Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27. With this update, when you go to the wallpaper picker, you have the option of picking AI generated images that are based on some of your photos but recreated in a new style, suitable for wallpapers.
But in case that isn’t the look you’re going for, don’t worry. Users can also tap the Image Playground button, describe the image you’re thinking about, and it’ll create a wallpaper that fits your iPhone screen perfectly. While there is some debate on using AI to generate images, we reckon this is probably one of the more harmless and fun ways of using the technology. After all, you’re not really trying to pass off that image as something you painted or drew, nor are you trying to sell it (we hope not).
But that’s not all
In addition to using AI to generate wallpapers, iOS 27 also has other fun and potentially useful customization options. This includes a wallpaper extension feature, where Apple Intelligence is used to expand a photo beyond its original boundaries so it fills your screen nicely.
There’s even a compact clock mode available. This sees Apple go in the opposite direction of iOS 26, which allowed users to use a giant clock on the lock screen. iOS 27 is expected to be released later this year, possibly around September.
