While YouTube Music covers all the basics, it doesn’t by default offer a native block option for songs and artists that lets users permanently skip artists they don’t want to hear. It has been a long-requested option, but for some reason, Google never bothered to ship it. Until now, anyway. YouTube Music is reportedly finally testing an option to block artists.
YouTube Music reportedly testing ‘Don’t recommend artist’ button on Android
Reddit user RouFGO reportedly spotted a new “Don’t recommend artist” button on their YouTube Music app on Android. As per the user, this button appears only on the home page. It doesn’t appear in the playing queue and can’t be used in generated playlists. That said, the user claims that tapping the “Don’t recommend artist” button does nothing at this point. The blocked artists apparently still keep appearing on the home page. This means the button is practically useless at the moment.
YouTube Music may be testing this feature behind the scenes with a limited set of users. We just hope it expands beyond the home page to other parts of the app where it feels practical to have. Having a block option just on the home page doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
The button apparently does nothing currently
After testing with a small number of users, YouTube Music might gradually push this new option to block artists to more users based on feedback. So, it is okay if you don’t see the button just yet. Having said that, there’s no clear timeline on when (or if) it will make its way to more users at the moment. We’ll update when that happens, though.
This comes just days after YouTube Music put the Search in the bottom bar, replacing the Explore option. This change will make one-handed usage easier now, and the layout now aligns with other rival platforms like Spotify. This change is widely available to users globally.
