Samsung‘s Galaxy Watches are among the finest and most popular health and fitness tracking wearables available at this point. However, like every other electronic device, Galaxy Watches aren’t immune to issues or bugs. In the past few days, if you have noticed your Galaxy Watch running out of battery faster than normal, you are not alone. Believe it or not, the reason behind the Galaxy Watch battery drain issue is apparently Google Play Services.
Multiple Galaxy Watch users report battery drain, allegedly caused by Google Play Services
According to multiple user reports on Reddit, Galaxy Watches are losing battery faster than normal. Google Play Services, which is responsible for core functionality on the Galaxy Watch, is apparently the culprit. The issue came to light after folks at Android Authority spotted a few Reddit posts complaining about battery drain on multiple Galaxy Watch models.
In a Reddit post, a user shared a screenshot of their battery usage. It shows that Google Play Services consumed up to 69.7% of the battery. Another user showed Google Play Services consuming up to 30.9% of their Galaxy Watch battery. What’s worse is that one user even claimed that Google Play Services used 99.97% of their Galaxy Watch’s battery.
For the uninitiated, Google Play Services runs in the background and connects your apps to all of Google‘s systems. As of now, it is unclear what is causing this issue. While battery drain is a normal issue, having one app consume battery levels of 60% and over 90% is clearly not normal and is a cause for concern.

At least four different models are affected by the issue
As of now, it seems users of the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Galaxy Watch 6, and Galaxy Watch 7 are experiencing this battery drain issue caused by Google Play Services. So, it’s clear that this is a widespread issue. And the issue isn’t limited to a single smartwatch model or user. At this point, there is no clear indication of what is causing the problem. Since multiple news outlets are picking up this story, we expect Google or Samsung to comment on it. If it does, we’ll update this article with additional information.
