Today’s the day. The day that Siri might actually finally become usable. Nearly 15 years after it was first announced by Apple, on the iPhone 4s. It’s hard to believe that Apple was first with an AI assistant like Siri, but has always been last in actual usability. Today, that could all change with iOS 27.
WWDC 2026 officially kicks off today, June 8, at 10 AM PT with the start of the keynote. This opening keynote typically lasts between 90 minutes and two hours. Which is a more consumer-focused keynote versus what we get at Google I/O. This is where Apple will debut the next version of each operating system. Including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, macOS 27, visionOS 27, and more.
This will be Tim Cook’s last Apple event as CEO
Also worth noting that this will be the last Apple event that Tim Cook will kick off as CEO with his iconic ‘Good Morning’ intro. As Apple has already announced that John Ternus will take over as CEO in September, and the company’s next major event is the iPhone 18, in September.
So, WWDC is a bigger deal for Tim Cook this year than it has been in the past. Cook isn’t leaving Apple; he’s moving to executive chairman and will be focusing mostly on the politics of Apple. Which he’s done a lot of already, especially with Trump in the White House. Ternus, as CEO, will still have to report to Cook and the rest of the Board of Directors.
Cook has been CEO of Apple for about 15 years, having taken over from Steve Jobs, and guided the company through Jobs’ death as well. Tim Cook has brought the company to new heights, being a $4 trillion+ company right now. Making it one of the biggest companies in the world.
