TikTok started out as a platform for users to upload videos, and for the most part, that core functionality remains. However, the platform has evolved over time. Now, there’s TikTok shopping, which lets creators sell items through the platform. But TikTok’s not done yet, as it has launched a new app: TikTok Pro Events.
TikTok launches TikTok Pro Events app
So what is this new app from TikTok? According to TikTok, the Pro Events app is designed to celebrate cultural milestones, like the upcoming FIFA World Cup. But what makes this app so different from say a dedicated FIFA app or YouTube? Well, through this app, users get to take part in communities and engage with other fans.
Users can find trending videos based around current events, as well as access curated feeds. The platform is even trying to gamify the whole process. This is done through “Stars,” available for users aged 18 and above. Users can earn these stars by completing activities, and they can then exchange these stars for exclusive benefits.
This includes official FIFA merchandise, TikTok Shop coupons, or even making donations to TikTok-funded charities. If you’re interested in checking it out, the TikTok Pro Events app is only available in the US for now, and you can download it from the iOS App Store or Google Play.
Is this even necessary?
That being said, we don’t quite get the point of this app. Or rather, why would TikTok launch a standalone app when they can integrate the feature into the main app? We suppose one reason is that a standalone app allows for a more immersive experience and themed elements.
However, there is also a possibility that the app could cannibalize usage of the main TikTok app. Then users would be even more confused as to which app they should use. The company recently launched TikTok GO, a way for users to book hotels within the app, so we don’t see why this app had to be a standalone launch.
Either way, only time will tell if this will become a mainstay or if it will end up in the app graveyard.
