A new OnePlus 16 rumor is out, and this one is also camera-related. It does paint a different picture, though. The information comes from Digital Chat Station, one of the best-known tipsters around.
The OnePlus 16 could have a 200MP main camera, or a 200MP periscope telephoto camera… not both
He claims that the OnePlus 16 will have a 200-megapixel main camera, backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. That contradicts rumors we’ve seen thus far.
Several previous rumors suggested that the phone will include a 50-megapixel main camera, backed by a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), and a 50-megapixel ultrawide snapper.
Do note that in both cases, the same 50-megapixel ultrawide camera is mentioned. DCS did not mention the optical zoom on that 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, but we’re guessing it’s also 3x.
It’s possible OnePlus is testing more than one prototype
It is possible that OnePlus has at least two different prototypes of the phone that it is testing. We cannot know for sure, of course. As things stand, one of the two setups will be used on the device; the question remains… which one?
One thing is for sure: we won’t be getting two 200-megapixel snappers on the OnePlus 16. OPPO’s flagships are usually more camera-focused. OnePlus will aim to provide a well-balanced flagship in general, it seems.
The OnePlus 15 was announced back in October last year. The OnePlus 16 will probably follow around that time this year; we’re just not sure when exactly. It could be October once again; it remains to be seen.
Qualcomm’s most powerful chip will be used
The phone is expected to utilize the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor, along with top-of-the-line RAM and storage. A large battery is expected as well, along with blazing fast wired and wireless charging.
We’re not sure if the OnePlus 16 will be making its way to the US and Europe. The latest reports related to OnePlus’ plans for the US and Europe are not exactly making us confident that it will happen.
