Earlier this year, Apple took the PC market by storm with the launch of its budget-friendly MacBook Neo. While the budget MacBook exceeded all sales expectations, a report from April hinted that Apple was running out of “binned” A18 Pro chips for the device. Now, it seems the supply chain dilemma has been sorted out. That’s because supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple has now doubled the production of the MacBook Neo.
Apple has reportedly doubled the production of the MacBook Neo
In a post on X from late last month, Kuo notes that Apple has doubled its MacBook Neo shipment target for 2026 from 5 million units to 10 million units. The adjustment in production reportedly came after the MacBook Neo’s March debut resulted in skyrocketing demand, higher than initially anticipated.
Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted the same during the recent earnings call. For those unaware, the MacBook Neo has outperformed every other Mac in its debut quarter. The price point of the MacBook Neo is what makes it appealing to buyers. Apple’s budget MacBook starts at $599 for regular buyers in the US. Whereas, it’s available to college students at a $100 discount, bringing the price down to $499.
In short, the MacBook Neo is the most affordable MacBook Apple has ever launched. To catch you up, the hype surrounding the MacBook Neo has been so high that Microsoft has had to counter it with the limited-time Ultimate College Bundle, which includes $500 worth of freebies. College students in the US with a valid .edu email address can get 1 year of Microsoft 365 Premium, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and a design-your-own Xbox Wireless Controller when buying an eligible PC.
Windows PC makers are trying hard to subside Apple’s budget MacBook hype
Ever since Apple launched the MacBook Neo, multiple Windows PC makers have introduced laptops matching its price point. Among them is Acer, which, at Computex 2026, unveiled the Acer Aspire Go 15 with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon C processor. Acer has confirmed that it will be available at an entry-tier price point later this year. That’s not all; Dell has also introduced a redesigned XPS 13 laptop with a price tag of $699. The brand is tempting buyers with a touchscreen and a backlit keyboard, features that aren’t available on Apple’s budget MacBook Neo.
