Leaker Ice Universe has gotten its hands on dummy units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. For those that haven’t been paying attention, the current thinking is that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the wide model, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra being the more direct upgrade from the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
What we can see here is that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 does have a dual-camera setup on the rear, which is what we’ve been seeing leaked for quite a few months now. Similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge from last year.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra looks virtually identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It does look quite skinny next to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, actually. We weren’t expecting a huge upgrade here as Samsung had already made some big changes this past year with the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be considerably wider, making one-handed use much more difficult
One of the reasons why so many people loved the skinny front display on the Galaxy Z Fold models in the past was that it made one-handed use much easier. But with the new wide model, that’s going to be pretty tough. It’s much shorter and wider than the traditional Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Though we’ll need to hold off until we get our hands on it, before we decide whether that’s true or not.
This form factor, however, will make multi-window much better. Since the main display will be 4:3, that’s most likely why Apple has been going down this route with its own foldable launching later this year.
The good news is, Samsung is finally adding another foldable form factor to its lineup. For seven generations, we’ve been stuck with just two: either the book style or the flip phone.
