The OnePlus gaming controller was launched a little earlier this year and with it came the OnePlus Ace 6, the only phone that had support for it at the time. That support has extended to several new devices as of this week, which means more people will be able to enjoy using this as their controller of choice. It’s good for users because it’s good to have options, and this looks like it could be a pretty decent controller.
That being said, the device support for this is still pretty limiting. That is, the OnePlus gaming controller still only works with OnePlus devices. Specifically, the OnePlus 15, OnePlus 15R, OnePlus Ace 6T (which is essentially the same phone), and the OnePlus Nord 6 and Turbo 6. This is in addition to the OnePlus Ace 6. That’s a fair amount of devices to start and it certainly opens up the compatibility list. But if you use anything other than this handful of options, you’ll need to find a different controller.
Will the OnePlus gaming controller ever support non-OnePlus devices?
If you like the idea of this controller and you want to know if it’ll work with the device you have, if it not the ones listed above then chances are it will never have support. So far, OnePlus has only confirmed expanding support to some of its own phones. Even then, the list is small and doesn’t even break ten different devices. So at the end of the day, the chance of it expanding to other brands is pretty small.
It’s also worth noting that unlike essentially every other mobile game controller, this only has four buttons on the back. So it’s designed to let you still use the touch controls for movement and most other in-game actions. For alternatives that have a full set of buttons, there’s the Razer Kishi V3, and the Backbone One which are two of the best options available.
