Vertu, which is pretty well-known for making ridiculously expensive smartphones in gold and diamonds, is back again. This time with its first foldable phone, called the AlphaFold. This does look a tad like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with the three cameras on the back, but once you see the specs, you’ll know it’s definitely not the Fold 7.
Inside the AlphaFold, Vertu is using the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, with a 6,500mAh capacity silicon-carbon battery and 68W fast wired charging. It also has a 6.53-inch outer display and an 8.05-inch inner “creaseless” folding display. Both of which are LTPO OLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate.
There are also three cameras on the back, including a 50-megapixel primary, a 50-megapixel ultrawide, and a 5-megapixel telephoto. It’s pretty rare that an ultrawide is better than the telephoto, but that’s the case here.
Even Vertu is getting in on the AI craze with this phone, introducing the Hermes Agent. This is claimed to work with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. The Hermes Agent is able to perform a range of actions, from controlling and navigating the UI to configuring quick settings. It also works with a number of third-party apps like X, TikTok, Facebook, Gmail, Google Calendar, and many more.

The Vertu AlphaFold starts at $6,880
As is typical with Vertu smartphones, the AlphaFold doesn’t come cheap. Starting at $6,880, with the most maxed-out model featuring Himalaya Gold IV and diamonds at $46,880. That’s quite a bit more expensive than what the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was asking for.
Pre-orders for the Vertu AlphaFold start today. At the time of writing this, the pre-order page throws up a 404 error. So it’s not quite available for pre-order just yet.
For this price, you could definitely get a better device from Samsung, OPPO, Honor, or really anyone else. It’s hard to recommend something this expensive with a 5MP telephoto camera, if we’re being honest.
