The OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a pretty impressive smartphone that likely won’t be making it to most of the world.
According to leaker Smart Pikachu on Weibo, the OnePlus 16 will sport an 185Hz refresh rate, a 3x 200MP camera, and an AI button. The AI button isn’t really anything new, we’ve had that on recent OnePlus and OPPO devices, once they decided to remove the alert slider.
The real news here is actually going to be that camera. Sporting a 3x 200MP camera is definitely going to be a huge upgrade for OnePlus and provide quite a bit of zooming capability. OPPO has already added a 200MP camera for its 3x telephoto on the Find X9 Pro and Find X9 Ultra. So this isn’t a huge surprise, to be quite honest.
Though upping the display to 185Hz is a bit of a head scratcher. The OnePlus 15 already has a 165Hz display, with very few apps that support such a high refresh rate. There will be even fewer that support 185Hz, unfortunately.
OnePlus 16 is also said to sport a 9,000mAh battery
OnePlus is also continuing to go crazy with battery capacity this year. Rumors suggest the OnePlus 16 will have a 9,000mAh battery. Of course, that’s going to be a silicon-carbon battery, and quite a bit larger than even the OnePlus 15, which already had a giant battery inside.
It’s also going to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, with support for LPDDR6 RAM.
Now, because of the ongoing RAMpocalypse, it’s likely that we’re going to see a price increase for the OnePlus 16. As it’s not just RAM that is going up in price, but so are storage and CPU components. We’d fully expect that the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips will be more expensive than the Gen 5.
