Samsung is moving fast with the One UI 8.5 rollout, as it’s pushing it to flagships, foldables, tablets, and even mid-range models. Parallelly, it’s also progressing One UI 9 development, as the beta is already available for the Galaxy S26 series. While that’s good news, it seems some features are suddenly nowhere to be found. Reports on the web suggest that Samsung has removed filters from video mode in One UI 8.5.Â
Samsung has reportedly removed filters in video mode in One UI 8.5
According to several reports from users, video filters are missing in some Galaxy phones since the One UI 8.5 update. There are complaints from multiple users on Reddit. It doesn’t seem like Samsung has relocated the option either, which some users initially thought. When they were available, video filters lived within the camera app UI and were only available when shooting full HD (1080p) videos. They didn’t support 4K. However, the option has been reportedly removed entirely with the update. Reportedly, it is now not available for both 1080p 30FPS and 1080p 60FPS videos.Â
For what it’s worth, the option is still present in the photo mode. Folks at Android Authority have independently checked for this on their Galaxy S26 Ultra running One UI 9 beta and found that filters weren’t available in video mode. Currently, it’s unclear whether this is intentional or if it’s a bug in the new update. But since it’s not available within One UI 9 beta either, it could be an intentional behavior.Â

There are workarounds, but not very practical
Going by the complaints, it seems users are not happy about this, regardless of the reasons Samsung may have. While that’s that, there seems to be some workarounds. One user suggested applying the filter in photo mode, then long-pressing the shutter button to record a video with the filter enabled. However, regular users may find this quite complicated. Another user noted directly applying the filter when editing videos in the native gallery app. But then, this will result in compression of the video.Â
This isn’t the only issue that users reported with recent One UI updates. AT&T users recently faced issues with video calls after the update, and there have been complaints about the new Quick Panel on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
