GTA 6 had an original launch date that was apparently well ahead of the late 2025 release that most people assumed was the plan. While the game now has a firm launch date of November 19, 2026, it was believed once upon a time that it was supposed to hit consoles in late 2025. It was then delayed until early 2026, and then again to November 19, which is where it now remains. All of this was rumored to be due to an engine rebuild.
The GTA franchise has been around for a very long time and with the popularity of GTA 5 and GTA Online, that leaves GTA with not only big shoes to fill, but it’s turned the game into one of the most anticipated games of all time. So you can probably imagine what a delay does to the excitement of its fans. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like any more delays are going to happen. Which means gamers can expect to see the game on November 19 and boot it up for the first time. In fact, Zelnick has hilariously stated that he believes a lot of people are going to call in sick that day.
The original GTA 6 launch date was reportedly 18 months from the current release time
There was a time when gamers might have been able to sit down and play GTA 6 for the first time in May of 2025. According to Zelnick in a recent interview with David Senra on YouTube, it sounds like the original goal was to launch the game in May of 2025. Zelnick reportedly says that the game’s launch date is 18 months behind the internal plans. Which suggests that the plan was for the release to happen in May of 2025.
Zelnick also reportedly reaffirms that the launch date for the game is still November 19, 2026. So there are no more delays from this point forward. That could always change, of course, as there are several months between now and then. But, Zelnick seems more confident now about the release window than ever before. GTA 6 launches on console this Fall, specifically PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.
