New Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 information has just surfaced from a tipster. The info comes from chun, who goes by Semi-reiterd-ing on X at the moment.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will allegedly be thinner and lighter than its predecessor
He said that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be “a lot thinner and lighter than the Fold 7.” We’ve shared CAD-based renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a while back, and while we don’t know its weight at the moment, it won’t exactly be a lot thinner. It will be slightly thinner, but definitely not “a lot.”
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 4.2mm when unfolded, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be around 3.9mm when folded. Such a minimal difference will be visible on it when folded too. That’s definitely not “a lot” of a difference.
Furthermore, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 weighs 215 grams, which is actually very light for a book-style foldable. If it ends up being even lighter than that, as the tipster says, that’s great. But once again, it will not be “a lot lighter,” as it was said.
A new hinge mechanism is also rumored
The itpster also noted that “the thing this time is not as strong as Fold 8.” It means that if you unfold the hinge below a 90-degree angle, it will bounce to fully open the phone, as it does on Chinese foldables.
He also mentioned that the phone will be more squared off and that the S Pen will not be making a comeback, despite some rumors claiming the opposite. Do take all of this information with a grain of salt, though.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to launch in July. The second Unpacked event of the year is rumored to take place on July 22 in London. Nothing has been confirmed just yet.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be arriving with the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the company’s first wide book-style foldable, though that much we do know.
