According to the rumors, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could be offered in an exciting new color option: Dark Cherry. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Apple’s foldable iPhone. If the latest rumors are accurate, the foldable iPhone will only be offered in two colors.
Foldable iPhone to be offered in two boring colors
Based on the latest rumors, the foldable iPhone will be offered in two colors: white and something more subdued, like silver or navy blue. However, this report contradicts an earlier report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Back in February, Gurman suggested that the foldable would come in both a dark gray/black and white/silver finish.
But overall, these limited color options make sense. The foldables market has been doing pretty well overall, but whether Apple’s own take does well is a different story. For starters, the price tag is something to consider. The rumors are saying it won’t come cheap, possibly starting close to the $2,000 mark.
That’s already more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Also, whether a foldable is something Apple customers actually want remains to be seen. But we suppose it’s also how Apple pulls it off and whether it is compelling enough for customers to take the plunge. Also, it is competing against itself, the iPhone 18 Pro series, which for the most part is enough for most customers.
So, for Apple to remain cautious with the number of SKUs makes a lot of sense. If it does well, maybe future iterations will come in more fun color options.
What to expect?
One of the main things to expect from the foldable iPhone is its design. Apple isn’t going the same route as everyone else. Instead, the company has opted to make the cover display smaller, so that when the phone folds open, it has more of a tablet aspect ratio rather than something that resembles a square.
This makes sense, especially since it would be easier for developers who might already have apps designed for the iPad. That being said, Huawei has already beaten Apple to the punch with the Pura X Max. Samsung is also reportedly working on a similar design with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
