A new update is headed out to the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X that ushers in some huge upgrades to the overall gameplay experience, and one of those upgrades is some notable improvements to docked play. The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are handhelds first and foremost, but they can also be docked for playing on bigger screens.
In addition to the docked improvements, the update also makes improvements to Auto Super Resolution. There’s a pretty big upgrade to the game library as well, and that might actually be the most important change for some users.
Docked play on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds auto-enables features for a better big-screen experience
One of the major upgrades with this update is the docked play improvements. Specifically, when you dock the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally or ROG Xbox Ally X, it will now automatically enable things like Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate. It will also improve controller pairing.
Microsoft says that all of this is in an effort to make big-screen gaming more seamless. A simpler transition from handheld to docked. Of course, there are other improvements being made as well. You will now be able to add custom games and apps to your library. Organization is important, and this should add more of that for users. More specifically, though, it’ll let you bring all of your favorite games and apps to the Xbox Experience and launch everything from one place. The launching everything from one place is the important bit. As it will add tons of convenience.
There’s also now support for low-latency Bluetooth LE audio, more refined vibration feedback, and even a display widget in the Game Bar. It’s worth noting that these improvements will probably be spread out across a few updates and not be available all at once.
