According to a new report from Korea, the Samsung Galaxy S27 series could have a new camera placement. Samsung is allegedly not making this change for aesthetic purposes; there’s a more important reason for it.
Samsung wants to fit magnets inside the Galaxy S27 series, hence the camera redesign
The report does not reveal what the new camera design will look like. It does, however, reveal the reason behind the change. The company is planning to fit magnets inside the Galaxy S27 series, and in order to do that, the camera design needs to change.
Samsung was actually rumored to make the change with the Galaxy S26 series, but the company gave up on that idea after all. A lot of last-minute changes were made regarding the Galaxy S26 series. That includes ditching the Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge models.
In any case, if Samsung makes this change with the Galaxy S27 series, it will join Apple and Google, who already offer built-in magnets. That change will make the Galaxy S27 series fully Qi2 compatible, and it will also enable you to use MagSafe accessories with the devices.
The change is not guaranteed due to “recent cost issues”
Do note that the change is not guaranteed, though. The source of this news says that “due to recent cost issues”, Samsung may end up putting the whole plan on hold. It could end up implementing magnets in the Galaxy S28 series instead.
The increasing RAM and storage prices are affecting all smartphone manufacturers, Samsung included. We do hope that this change will come to pass, as built-in magnets can be really useful. It remains to be seen, though.
The Galaxy S27 series is expected to bring some improvements over the Galaxy S26, at least based on early rumors. That is especially true for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it would seem. A bigger battery is allegedly on the way, along with improved camera hardware.
