Google has just announced that it will soon relaunch the Google Home & Nest Community and the Fitbit Community with a redesigned experience. The new update will bring faster navigation, improved organization, and better user experience. However, don’t get too happy yet, as there are some major downsides as well.
Redesigned Google Home, Nest, and Fitbit community is on the way
In an official announcement, Google called the upcoming change a “foundational shift.” The tech giant says the update is aimed at modernizing its legacy systems and unifying them with its broader digital ecosystem. It has been mentioned that the Fitbit community predates its acquisition, while the Nest community still relies on infrastructure originally tied to Stadia. The company is now replacing the outdated systems with a faster and more responsive interface.
The redesigned communities platform will introduce streamlined categories. This will make it easier for the users to locate a specific topic or troubleshoot guides. The new interface also redesigns the discussions tab to help users find solutions faster. Alongside the above-mentioned changes, the firm is adding a dedicated section for the Gemini for Home.
All of your old data will be deleted forever
Sure, the changes promised with the new update look impressive. However, the major downside we were talking about is related to your platform content. Google has confirmed that all previous content will be deleted from the community. Post histories won’t be carried over to the new, redesigned platforms. This basically means years of user-generated discussions, solutions, and shared knowledge will be gone forever.
For Fitbit users, the change is even more concerning as they will be required to create a new account altogether. The current Fitbit community will be retired along with all profile data, including badges and past contributions. While Home and Nest users may retain their login credentials, they will still lose their historical posts. The redesigned platforms will go live next month.
