Motorola kicked off its Android 17 beta program back in February, not long after Google started its own for Pixel devices. Now, Motorola is expanding the beta to the Motorola Razr Plus 2025, Razr Plus 2024 (also known as Razr 50 Ultra outside the US), and the Edge 50 Ultra.
It’s pretty simple to join the Android 17 Beta. You’ll need to create an account on its community website, and from there, you’ll need to go to your profile and add your phone’s IMEI number. This allows Motorola to add that IMEI to the beta list for OTAs. And finally, you’ll need to join the Motorola Feedback Network and send in your application.
Motorola is approving everyone individually for this program. Likely to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into before sending out the OTA.
The beta program is available to those in the US, India, Europe, Latin America, and Brazil right now. Spots for the beta program are limited, so you’ll need to act fast, if you do want to check out Android 17 ahead of the full roll out later this year.
Motorola is quickly improving on its software update speed
It wasn’t too long ago that Motorola was barely even updating its smartphones, and now we’re looking at betas launching long before its competitors. There was a Moto G phone a few years ago, where it was promised just one major update, and now we’re getting multiple years of updates, and they also seem to be much faster now, thankfully.
That’s something that kind of got lost in the shuffle with the move from Google to Lenovo as Motorola’s parent-company. Lenovo bought Motorola in 2014 for just under $3 billion, and it sort of seemed like for a while that it had no idea what it wanted to do with Motorola. Only recently has it figured out how it wants to position the oldest phone brand in the world.
