The last major iPhone design change we saw was the iPhone 17. Based on the leaked iPhone 18 renders and photos, Apple is expected to hold onto that design for one more generation. But come 2027, that will change. In fact, according to the latest rumors, the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027 could come with a 7-inch display.
2027’s iPhone could pack a 7-inch display
This comes courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo. According to the tipster, Apple is testing a 7-inch display for the 2027 iPhone. For those unfamiliar, 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone. It seems that Apple has huge plans for that, and bumping up the display size is one of them.
For years, Apple has kept the iPhone Pro Max’s display at 6.7-inches. However, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple bumped it to 6.9-inches. We expect Apple will keep that size, but with the 2027 iPhone, that could change. The jump from 6.9-inches to 7-inches isn’t that big, but we imagine it will be one of the phone’s main selling points.
It also might not necessarily get bigger. There are rumors that Apple is testing out an edge-to-edge display, meaning that the bezels could shrink, giving the 7-inch phone the same rough footprint as the 6.9-inch phone, if not smaller.
What else can we expect?
That being said, that’s not all we can expect. Like we said, Apple has used the same design for the iPhone 17 series and presumably the iPhone 18. However, if the rumors are true, the 2027 iPhone will be a huge shakeup in design. There are rumors Apple will bring the use of glass back.
We previously mentioned the edge-to-edge display, but there are rumors that it could also be slightly curved around the edges. We also heard rumors about the use of new cooling technology, and maybe even solid-state buttons. Either way, it’s going to be drastically different from what we’ve been seeing for the past 5-6 years.
Take it with a grain of salt for now. The iPhone 18 series hasn’t even been announced yet. Plus, plans are always subject to change. But if you’re a bit bored of the current design, maybe consider holding out for next year’s model.
