These days, the American automotive world is bombarded with every kind of SUV you can think of. We love the SUV so much in this country that, as of 2024, 59.3 percent of all new cars sold in the US were SUVs, according to a study done by Experian. This means the SUV beat out sedan sales by a whopping 40.9 percent. With numbers like that, it’s hard to imagine there was a time anywhere in the world when the SUV was an extremely niche type of vehicle.
