
Reports of 90-second unskippable ads surfaced earlier this week from users when watching YouTube on TV. This is evidently three times more than the platform’s 30-second ad limit for connected TVs. While we have already peace with unskippable ads, this is arguably excessive and ruins the experience totally. Well, YouTube has officially responded to the reports, where it straight up denies 90-second unskippable ads.

Responding to the X (formerly Twitter) account Dexerto about reports of 90-second unskippable ads, YouTube said that its application currently does not have non-skippable 90-second ad breaks, nor is it something that YouTube is testing right now. It further adds that it is “looking into this further.” The response from the YouTube team makes things more confusing than addressing the issue. There’s no straight explanation for why this is happening.
On the other hand, several users shared similar experiences, even showing the same screenshots, where the interface notes users can skip ads in around 90 seconds. With YouTube denying such long ads, it’s not clear what’s really going on here.

There are no straight answers as to why reports suddenly appeared this week, if 90-second ad breaks aren’t actually happening. If it’s a bug, it’s only natural to expect YouTube to say that instead of saying it’s “looking into it.” If it’s an accidental rollout, that’s basically A/B testing. Honestly, things don’t quite add up here, as something like this doesn’t just appear without some amount of work being done.
