Like many of the top gaming brands, ASUS ROG not just components or entire systems, but also the peripherals you would connect to those systems, like its new ROG Strix Morph 96 gaming keyboard. This new 96% keyboard is reasonably priced and seems to offer quite a bit for the money, so it’s likely to become a popular option for those seeking a gaming keyboard that offers good value. Of course, one of its strengths is likely going to be the battery life.
On the ROG Strix Morph 96, it’s incredibly long-lasting, reaching up to a maximum of 590 hours before the keyboard needs to be recharged. It should be stressed that this is with the RGB backlighting turned off. If you’re in a well-lit room where you can easily see the keys and you don’t really mind having the backlighting off, you’ll almost never have to charge this thing. That’s an exciting thought. If you prefer the backlighting on, battery life is considerably lower. Though, still respectable with up to 100 hours each charge cycle. ASUS says this is with the “default lighting.” So this probably means the backlights aren’t at full brightness.
The ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 is built to be an accessible, entry-level, and customizable gaming keyboard
Gaming keyboards that are designed to be customizable, especially on the level that ASUS sometimes produces, can end up being quite expensive. The ROG Strix Morph 96 is not one of those keyboards. It was designed as an entry-level option to make customizable gaming keyboards more accessible to a wider audience.
At a retail price of $139.99, this keyboard is priced fairly reasonably. It’s set up so that users can easily get the top cover off and customize what they want. The top cover is screwed on so it won’t take much to remove it. From there, you can customize and reassemble each layer with very little effort thanks to the internal structure’s design. This includes swapping everything from the plate to the PCB.
ASUS also designed this keyboard to fit within a size that’s close to a TKL layout. The company says it’s only 1cm wider than a traditional TKL keyboard, yet it still offers a full numpad. Additionally, the Strix Morph 96 can connect through Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, or with a USB-C cable. The 2.4GHz mode also supports connecting multiple ROG devices with a single USB receiver. The keyboard comes with hot swappable switches, too.
