Working at some of the biggest tech companies in the world has its perks. In addition to potentially high salaries, you also get early access to information on upcoming products, products that consumers and fans have been eagerly waiting for. Obviously this type of information is meant to be a secret, which is why Xiaomi recently fired an exec for allegedly leaking confidential information.
Xiaomi fires exec for leaking confidential info
In an email from the Xiaomi Group’s Ethics Committee, the company has apparently given one of its employees the sack. The Xiaomi exec, Wang Teng, was accused of leaking confidential company information. However, Wang is denying this.
According to posts made on his personal Weibo account, Wang says he has seen rumors about his departure online. He claims all of them are false. He also asserts that he has not stolen nor sold company secrets in exchange for money. But what about his departure from Xiaomi? According to Wang, he admits to some type of misconduct and says he is in “deep reflection.” However, he stopped short of providing the details.
“I feel very ashamed and want to apologize to everyone; I made some mistakes in the past and accept the consequences that come with them. I would like to thank Mr. Lei and all the company leaders for their training and trust over the years; I am very reluctant to leave.” He also adds, “I will continue to support Xiaomi and the REDMI brand as always in the future.”
For those unfamiliar with the Xiaomi exec, Wang was the General Manager of Xiaomi China Marketing and also the General Manager of the REDMI brand.
Xiaomi’s rise in the market
Xiaomi’s brand has always been rather popular, especially in China and various parts of Asia where its phones and its sub-brands have been positioned as affordable alternatives to brands like Apple and Samsung. They also make a variety of affordable accessories and household appliances.
However, recently Xiaomi looks to be stepping up its game. While most Android phone makers rely on Qualcomm or MediaTek for chipsets, Xiaomi has been working on its own chips. The company has also worked with other companies like Leica to enhance the photography capabilities of its phones.
More recently, a leak suggests Xiaomi could introduce a secondary display on the back of its upcoming Xiaomi 16 smartphone. This is a bold take, but we’ll have to wait and see if it ends up being more novel than functional.
