Xiaomi will be launching a range of products at its global event on February 28th in Barcelona. The list includes the Xiaomi 17 series, Xiaomi Tag, and the Xiaomi Pad 8 series. Besides these, there are rumors that Xiaomi would unveil its Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition in global regions, but with a different name: Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi. Now, the alleged hands-on images of the phone have surfaced online and confirm the rumor.
Alleged hands-on images of Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition global model leak
X/Twitter user @Frankforphones has shared the hands-on images of the phone. It appears that the images are of a demo unit, reportedly from a store in Bangkok. The watermark from the camera samples suggests that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition will debut globally as Leica Leitzphone. Additionally, one of the images, showing Bluetooth transfers inbound files, clearly mentions “Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi.”
The images show off the large circular module on the back with multiple camera sensors, LED flash modules, and Leica branding. The frame of the phone color-matches the ring around the camera module. The volume rocker and power buttons are present on the right edge. We can also see the “Leica Camera Germany” text engraving on the left side of the frame.
Different name in markets outside of China
While the Leica Leitzphone looks almost similar to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, there are some subtle differences. For instance, the dual-tone design of the Leica Edition is gone in favor of a dark gray shade. Also, the Leica branding above the camera module and the camera hardware inscription inside the circular module are rotated by 90 degrees so they read correctly when you hold the phone in portrait mode.
As said, the frame of the phone is now in silver color instead of black on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. The mechanical zoom ring seems to be intact, and this offers a DSLR-like zoom control. It’s now all but confirmed that the flagship will debut globally as Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi. To recall, there have been three Leitz phones in the past. This is a comeback of sorts.
Apart from branding, the phone may share similar hardware to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica edition. It might arrive with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.9-inch AMOLED display, a 6,800mAh battery with 90W/50W wired and wireless charging support, and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage.
