Xiaomi has started teasing its upcoming 16 Ultra smartphone. The company seems to be planning to launch the device much earlier than anyone anticipated. Xiaomi launched the 15 Ultra in February this year, but the 16 Ultra might see the light of day months earlier. Recently, Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group, posted on Weibo that the phone will set a “new height of mobile imaging.” A tipster now suggests that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will offer DSLR camera-like continuous optical zoom capabilities.
Xiaomi 16 Ultra’s cameras could offer DSLR-like smooth zooming experience
According to the well-known gadget tipster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi’s 16 Ultra’s cameras will be able to surpass fixed zoom levels, such as 3x or 5x. The company could offer continuous optical zoom capability on the device, which is a complex DSLR feature that only a few smartphones have tried before.
Xiaomi will make continuous optical zoom features possible on the 16 Ultra by incorporating a shared CMOS sensor between dual optical zoom segments. Doing this, the brand will minimize quality loss when zooming in or out, suggests the source. Thanks to this tech, the users could capture a photo at, say, 3x, 5x, 4x, or 1x without substantial loss of quality.
With continuous optical zoom capability, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will offer a photography experience similar to a DSLR camera. It will not just jump between fixed zoom levels but will smoothly adapt to whatever framing users want.
A 200MP sensor paired with a multi-layer periscope lens system
If we believe the leaks so far, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra could flaunt a 200MP periscope telephoto camera aided by a 1.28-inch sensor with up to 5x optical zoom. Reports suggest that the phone will feature a 50MP 1-inch main camera, along with a 50MP Sony LYT-600 ultra-wide shooter. For selfies and video calling, it’ll have a 50MP front shooter, according to the leaks. It appears that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra is shaping up to be a really impressive photography device.
As for the other specs, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra could offer a 6.8-inch flat LTPT display with 2K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. Rumors suggest that the company will power the device with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. The phone could offer a beefy battery ranging from 7,000mAh to 7,500mAh, which will likely support 100W fast charging.
