The Xiaomi 16 may not be as compact as you think it will
Based on a new rumor from China, the Xiaomi 16 will have a larger display than its predecessor. In addition to that, it may finally get a periscope telephoto camera, though an ultra-thin stacked one.
As a reminder, the Xiaomi 15 has a regular telephoto camera with a 2.6x optical zoom. Including a proper periscope telephoto camera inside the Xiaomi 16 would be a considerable improvement for the phone.
Unfortunately, it seems like Xiaomi is getting ready to increase the phone’s size at the same time. We’re guessing that the size increase could be partly because of that camera, and partly because of the thinness of the phone.
Let’s hope that the display won’t grow much
We still don’t know how large its display will be exactly. However, let’s hope that Xiaomi will keep it at least somewhat compact. Why? Well, because the vanilla Xiaomi flagship has been considered a compact smartphone for quite a few years thus far.
It’s actually refreshing to have a smaller high-end smartphone to turn to. Quite a few companies have decided to grant that option to consumers, so let’s hope that Xiaomi won’t stray far away from that.
Considering how unclear the rumor is, it’s possible that the display will be only slightly larger at 6.4 inches or something like that. That would be bearable, but still, it’s moving away from the proper compact sector.
The Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro are expected to arrive in October this year. Nothing has been confirmed thus far, though.
