At heart, Kirsti Lee November is a city girl who feels most at peace being in the bush – in fact, she says it’s where she discovered her purpose.

In 2017, she joined G Adventures as a CEO (Chief Experience Officer) based in Cape Town, South Africa.
“The values of G Adventures align closely with my own as there’s a strong focus on creating positive change through tourism not only by supporting the communities where we operate, but also by contributing to the conservation of wildlife areas,” she said.
“This is something I’m very passionate about.”
In honour of Earth Month, we asked Lee November about what makes Southern Africa a special destination to learn about wildlife and conservation.

What is the importance of sustainable tourism and ensuring we take steps to protect and conserve the environments we visit while travelling?
“Practicing sustainable tourism is important because wildlife is not only there to be admired, but to be protected. They cannot speak for themselves, which makes it our responsibility to treat them with respect and take conscious steps to safeguard their future. When visiting wildlife areas we have to keep in mind that we are merely visitors in their natural home. Sustainable tourism can be achieved through education, conservation and a genuine love for the wildlife we share this planet with.”

What is a standout experience in African nature that left you in awe?
“One of my most unforgettable wildlife experiences was witnessing a Springbok give birth during a safari in Etosha National Park. It was a rare glimpse into the delicate cycle of life in the wild and a moment I will never forget.”
What are your favourite wildlife species in Africa?
“Leopards have always been my favourite. Their quiet, solitary nature makes them elusive so when I do see them it is always very special. I also really love birds. The more time you spend observing them the more you begin to realise just how interesting they are, from their behaviour and colours to the subtle details that make each one unique.”

What’s one place on earth that reminds you how amazing our planet is?
“The Okavango Delta in Botswana is one of my favourite places. Its untouched landscapes allow animals to roam freely and I’ve had some of my most unforgettable wildlife encounters there. The area also supports community-based tourism making a visit here even more meaningful.”
What do you enjoy most about being a CEO and showing travellers pockets of wildlife across Africa?
“Africa is a place many people often dream of visiting for a long time. When they finally experience the beauty of it, I have the great privilege of being part of that moment. For me that is something really special. Also, my love for wildlife goes far beyond a great sighting. Through my photography I hope to inspire meaningful conversations around conservation and the importance of protecting these animals.”
