What is light? Where does light come from? And where does it go?
We don’t think about it much, because light is everywhere. We take it for granted. Maybe we shouldn’t. Maybe we should be amazed.
Because we’ve all known the other side, darkness. In fact, There was a time in our lives when we preferred it. And the light was a nuisance.
But what is light? What’s it’s source? Does it come from the sun? Does it come from the stars? No. All those lights have their source in the original light, the first light that came from none other then our God: Jesus Christ himself.
The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.
Jesus is the source. Jesus is the only reason we can see.
We were blind without him. It’s so easy to forget.
If it wasn’t for Jesus, the true light, the power of God that holds reality together, we would all be in darkness. We would all live in sin. We would be lost, and unaware that light was even possible.
We would all join the serpent in saying did God really say? But for the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we have the light that shines upon us.
Don’t let this world convince you that you don’t need Jesus. The darkness is always whispering, calling us back, back to our old ways. Don’t listen. Don’t take the light for granted.
Jesus Christ is the precious light. The sacred light. The light that produces waves of love. The burning light that makes our hearts burn with unspeakable warmth.
I remember how my life used to be, before I knew Jesus. I lived in a broken world in which light did not penetrate. And it grew ever darker unto utter pitch black darkness. So many in this world are on that broken path, unable or unwilling to see the light of Jesus.
The light that emanates from Jesus has substance. Power. Love. And it effects real change in the heart of the most darkened sinner. No one is beyond it.
Jesus shines in pure bright white light, completely holy, a consuming fire, waves of power flow from Him. Lightning and thunder, earthquakes and a rainbow over His throne, the power to break into the most hardened heart.
Will you show others toward the true light that shines into their darkness?
Even if to them it’s an annoyance. Even if it’s not received well. Even if it’s rejected at first.
Because Jesus really is, the only way, the only truth, and the only life. The only light. Every other way is a dead end.
Yet here is a profound mystery: If you come close to the light again and again, and know Him, you will burn as He burns. You will shine as he shines.
And the lost, broken, mangled, beastly looking other, will come to his light, through your light. Your shine will lead back to His shine.
So Shine. Shine for others, shine until he comes again in utter brightness to establish His righteous kingdom. And celebrating with you will be those who saw your light and became light themselves.Â
