There’s a funny joke in That 70’s Show where a character conspiratorially talks about the government having a car that “runs on water, man.” While they don’t exactly “run on water,” hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) do emit zero harmful pollutants aside from water vapor. It’s a fabulous technology that only appears to be hampered by the cost, availability, and distribution challenges of hydrogen. Only a few automakers – including Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota – produce FCEVs that consumers can buy in the USA, but there are other ways this technology is being used to help lower emissions.
