Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is testifying Thursday morning before the House Appropriations Committee about the department’s fiscal 2026 budget request.
The budget, which includes investments in President Trump’s “America First” agenda, comes as the administration is under fire over Trump’s tariffs on nearly all foreign trading partners and as the administration faces a legal battle over whether the president has the authority to implement sweeping import taxes.
The commerce chief also faced grilling from the Senate on Wednesday, where he was pressed on whether the administration was seeking reciprocity amid trade negotiations. While most reciprocal tariffs are currently paused, Trump suggested recently that new rates were imminent.
The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
