House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will speak with reporters Thursday morning as lawmakers across the spectrum are feeling the weight of the ongoing government shutdown.
The pressure is mounting over expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies that will jack up health insurance premiums, a pending lapse in funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and paychecks for military workers as the shutdown persists.
Johnson and other Republican leaders have cast blame on their Democratic counterparts for blocking a “clean” stopgap bill that would reopen the government. The Speaker also recently called stand-alone bills on SNAP and federal worker pay a “waste of our time.”
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
