House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Democratic leaders will give remarks at a hearing Thursday morning, as high health care premiums and dwindling funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are at the forefront of the ongoing government shutdown battle.
The issue of affordability has also been in the spotlight in recent days as Democrats celebrate key wins from Tuesday’s elections. Jeffries, along with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have pressed President Trump and their GOP counterparts to come back to the negotiation table to address the record shutdown and expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
