Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 thinner than the HONOR Magic V5 despite official specs? Well, according to one of the most prolific tipsters out there, yes, it is. Ice Universe shared a rather interesting post on X.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to be thinner than the HONOR Magic V5?!
He placed both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and HONOR Magic V5 on the table, side-by-side, and conducted a little test. In the first test, he placed a card on top of them, and when he pressed the card on top of the Magic V5, it rocked towards that side, the same did not happen when he did the opposite. He also switched their positions, just to be fair. This suggests the Fold 7 is thinner.
In order to prove his point even further, he placed a small ball on top of that card. Regardless of whether the Fold 7 was on the left or the right, the ball rolled its way, suggesting it’s thinner.
What’s the big deal here? Well, according to official specs, the HONOR Magic V5 is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is allegedly 8.8mm thick, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm when folded.
A vernier scale tells a different story
What’s interesting, however, is that Ice Universe also pulled out a vernier scale/callipher to measure them, following complaints from people on X. Why is that interesting? Well, because based on that, the HONOR Magic V5 is thinner, which makes no sense.
It seems that I can only take out my ruler, helpless. People only believe in numbers, but not in the laws of physics.

The tipster did say that he’s waiting for the micrometer to arrive his way, so that he can measure again. The numbers say one thing, a practical test of thinness says something else entirely. Interesting.
Either way, both of these phones are quite new. Both of them were announced this month, though the HONOR Magic V5 did arrive a bit sooner. It’s availability is not yet where it should be, however. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is easy to pre-order at this point, in various parts of the world.
