The original Chevy small block engines had one of the most incredible runs in automotive history, covering two generations across nearly 40 years, from 1954 to 1993, and powering half a century of SUVs, pickups, muscle cars, wagons, and family sedans. The modern iteration of the engine, the General Motors small block, starts with the Gen III powerplants that went into production in 1997 and powered Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Tahoes, and Escalades through the 00s.
