The recent Verizon network outage is drawing new attention as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) begins collecting complaints from the affected customers. After millions of users lost service for hours in mid-January, the federal authority says public safety concerns require a closer review of how and why the network failed. The commission aims to understand the impact caused by the disruption.
FCC begins collecting complaints from users affected by Verizon outage
The major Verizon outage on January 14 left many customers disconnected from the internet. Some were not even able to make a basic phone call or send SMS. The blackout continued for about ten hours, which disrupted the day-to-day communications of the users. Phones across the United States showed SOS alerts, signaling a complete loss of network.
FCC says the disruption was especially serious for people who tried to contact emergency services and could not get through when they needed help the most. The FCC Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is currently examining the outage and its impact. It is looking for the ground impact and whether proper safety measures were in place. The commission further wants to understand how Verizon handled the situation and what steps it took afterward to prevent such future disruptions.
Here’s how you can submit an official complaint to the FCC
As said earlier, the FCC is collecting complaints from the impacted users as a part of its ongoing investigation. It has opened up a special email address (VerizonOutage2026@fcc.gov) for consumer complaints tied to the outage. Impacted users are requested to provide details such as what services stopped working, how long the issue lasted, and whether calls or text messages were accessible. The authority is more concerned about the reports involving 911 calls or other emergency numbers.
FCC is also seeking the customer’s view of the after-outage service provided by Verizon. Users are advised to take part and submit the detailed report to the authority. Once submitted, it becomes part of the official case record. If regulators find Verizon not complying with the commands of those in authority, the carrier could face a fine.
