Verge Motorcycles wants to expand beyond simply making its own electric motorcycles, into helping others do the same. How so? The company is working on a new platform called Verge Next, which will allow anyone, whether it be a hobbyist or another company, to build their own two-wheeled electric vehicles.
Verge has yet to release all the details of the new platform, but the idea is that others will be able to leverage Verge Motorcycles’ tech, like the signature Donut Motor, to build their own vehicles. The platform removes unnecessary parts to make for a more efficient, more streamlined experience that others can build on top of.
It won’t just serve the creation of motorcycles, either. Instead, it could be used for any two-wheeled electric vehicle, and Verge shows off designs for e-bikes, scooters, mopeds, light motorcycles, and more.
The Donut Motor is what it sounds like – an electric motor design that’s completely hubless, and that’s integrated into the rear wheel of the vehicle. It was developed in partnership with Donut Lab, and cuts down on weight, which simultaneously boosts efficiency.
The Donut Motor comes in two sizes – 12 inches and 17 inches – and a number of different power levels. On top of that, those interested can contact Verge Next to get a custom power level.
Hopefully, the initiative will spur a whole new generation of high-performance, ultra-efficient electric two-wheelers of all kinds. In the meantime, you can learn more about Verge Next at vergenext.com.
