When we think of muscle cars, images of models like the Chevrolet Chevelle SS and the Dodge Charger R/T come to mind. After all, the muscle car as a whole was born in the US. However, when it comes to definitively naming the first, true muscle car, things can get a little bit heated. Some folks will argue it was the 1949 Oldsmobile 88 with its high-compression V8, while others will advocate for the 1964 Pontiac GTO. A more niche belief is that the 1955 Chrysler C-300 was the first muscle car.
